Work that is prepared in a highly skilful artistic manner is considered Craftsmanship.
Can there be anything that will give you more pride than looking at a table that you built, with your tools, with your hands, and with your time. I know that whenever I have built something, there is a true sense of pride that comes when I can sit back and look at the finished result. To know that it has been all my effort that has taken that piece from being a pile of lumber to a fully finished work of art.
No matter what it is that you are building, remember this first, it is something that my Grandfather taught to me when I first started working with wood. TAKE YOUR TIME. Rushing will only allow you to make errors.
Weve grown up in an instant society " and technology makes us want things faster and faster every day. So it is pretty normal to want to hurry up and get your project built. Sheesh, when you watch HGTV, those Master Carpenters can build a replica shaker chest in 30 minutes! NOT - it really takes them many days to build it, not the 30 minutes that the program is on for.
So embrace your patience and the art flow from you to the work. Sure there are lots of little rules that must be adhered to, but I have found that when I rush, the piece often does not finish as I had intended it to. I am proud to say that all of my projects have been a one of a kind.
So, while keeping in mind Grandpas Rule plan your project. How long do you have to do it realistically? Can it be left for awhile in a partially constructed state until you are in the right frame of mind to build?
Have you really thought about what you are building? What is the purpose and who will benefit from it? Ideally you will have a fully functional work space. If you dont, then think about where you can build your project without causing too much trouble. - 20759
